The American Pastime of Sports

The American Pastime of Sports

The American Pastime of Sports
The American Pastime of Sports
Nothing says America like it's national sport of baseball and nothing is as exciting as lacing up the cleats picking up your bat and walking out to home plate. The feel of the sun beating down on your back, the sweat in your eyes and the faint smell of dust in the air; there is no wonder that they call baseball "America's past time." As deeply rooted as baseball is to the fabric of America baseball is not the only sport that's so deeply routed into our psyche.
As American is baseball is, motor sports is equally as American. Auto racing began simultaneously with the advent of the automobile. Racing on the sand dunes of the Jersey shore to racing across the salt flats, drag racing has remained a unique American sport that has lasted for generations. Grass roots racers enjoy hot weekends under the sun wearing their own form of sport sunglasses as they tune their engines, rev their motors and take their car down the quarter mile track in a competition that creates a level of excitement unseen in any other sport. Although drag racing has seen it's fair share of time in other counties it shares a spot on the American sporting legacy that will go on for centuries to come. It's a sport that has evolved to include motorcycles, boats and even tractors! It will surely adapt to anything modern technology can throw its way!
Another uniquely American sport has been the sport of professional bowling. Popular since the 50's bowling has been the sport of the beer drinker for a very long time! Many a men would put on their shoes, grab their ball and head to the alley to show off their skills in an effort for that elusive 300. Although you can likely find a bowling ally in just about any country, it's roots belong to the good old USA!
The most common sport after baseball would have to be football. This sport eclipses baseball in gross revenue each year but had exclusively remained an American sport much to the sagtrin of the NFL and NFL Europe. Sure other countries play it but it's essentially a farm league for the NFL. You know they are wearing some cool sport sunglasses! Some may say that football has become America's past time and it has replaced baseball as a national treasure but one thing is for certain, it is an American sport and is likely to remain that way for a long time to come.
No matter what sport you enjoy the most it's undeniable as to the influence the United Stated of America has had on the sporting world. We continue to lead the way when it comes to innovative sports such as Slamball, extreme sports and ore traditional sports such as baseball and football. You can rest assured that, if it can be thrown, raced or launched someone in America will figure out a way to turn it into a sport.

How to Lose Weight

How to Lose Weight

How to Lose Weight

How to Lose Weight

'How to lose weight quickly' diets are all over the media, on television, websites, newsstands, radio, magazines and books.
Most overweight people want to know how to lose weight in a week. They are, quite rightly, desperate to lose excess weight and will grasp at anything that promises how to lose weight fast. But many of these "lose weight fast" diets are based on false promises and ill-founded opinions, and can actually be harmful and even counter-productive, leading to greater weight gain!
Here are just some of the myths and misinformation promoted by "quick weight loss" gurus:

-Myth: Cut calories to lose excess body fat.
-Reality: Cutting calories makes the body think it must preserve fat, and so you put on weight instead of achieving weight reduction.

-Myth: Following set menus and eating plans can help lose weight.
-Reality: Most diet books and weight loss plans promote set menus of what to eat when. This never works because food preferences and lifestyles vary so much. Indeed, by following any kind of set food menus, day in day out, you are more likely to gain weight because you will either go hungry or get too bored with the monotony. Then when you give up the set menus you will quickly re-gain your weight (and more) as you go back to your old eating habits.

-Myth: Eating whole grain and fiber-rich foods is healthy and will help you lose weight.
-Reality: Whole grains are no healthier than milled grains, and do nothing to promote good health or help you lose weight. Furthermore, there is plenty of scientific evidence showing that a high-fiber diet is bad for health. Fiber robs the body of vitamins and minerals. This leads to poor nutrition, which in turn prevents safe and healthy weight loss. We do not need much fiber in our daily diets and getting enough is very easy. Exhortations to eat more fiber are counter-productive.

-Myth: Fruit juice is non-fattening and healthy, as part of a well-balanced diet.
-Reality: Drinking fruit juice is more fattening and unhealthier than just about any other kind of food. Fruit juice gives the body a blast of fructose sugar without being bound up with fiber - this goes straight to body fat giving you quick weight gain, and is much worse for health than even table sugar!

-Myth: You should eat less and exercise to lose excess weight.
-Reality: The less you eat the more fat you put on because any kind of food restriction makes the body store more fat. When you exercise more you make yourself feel more hungry and exhausted, and you end up stuffing yourself with junk food which just makes you fatter. The secret is to exercise the smart way so that you don't feel hungry and exhausted.

-Myth: Drink less water so as to reduce water retention and feel less bloated.
-Reality: You must drink plenty of water to lose water retention (not less!). When you drink plenty of water the body will "think" it no longer needs to retain water in body tissue, and you quickly lose excess water.

-Myth: A good way to lose overweight is to increase your metabolic rate so as to burn fat fast.
-Reality: Your heart should sink when you come across such ridiculous notions. The metabolic rate is nothing more than a set of many different chemical reactions inside the body. Some of these chemical reactions work faster than others at different times of the day or night depending on a multitude of factors. In fact, fatter people tend to have higher metabolic rates (i.e. burn fat/energy faster) because of their higher body mass. To use (or attempt to control) the metabolic rate as a way of losing weight is like using a table-tennis ball to play tennis (impossible!).

How to lose weight in a week is a question many people ask. And yes, you can lose excess weight in a week, safely, quickly and easily if you know how. But 99% percent of dietary advice about how to lose weight quickly is completely wrong. Worse still, if you don't do it right, any attempts to lose weight quickly will re-bound and you will end up putting on more weight than before.
You definitely don't want to lose weight in a week and then put it all back the week after. Yo-yo dieting ruins your health and prevents weight loss. You want to lose weight quickly, but permanently. All human beings are the same biologically. Therefore there can only be one best way for a human being to lose weight quickly, safely, and permanently.
In recent years medical research into body weight loss has made exciting discoveries and now there is a kind of consensus on the best way for any human being to lose weight safely and quickly. This information has now for the first time been put into a book details of which are given below.

History of Gymnastics

History of Gymnastics

History of Gymnastics
History of Gymnastics
The beauty of gymnastics and the strength of the athletes is an awesome thing to watch, whether it is in person or on the television. There are several athletes to choose to cheer for and many countries to watch in each gymnastic competition, including the biggest competition, the Olympics. This sport has only been a competitive sport for a little over 100 years, but during that time, it has had an interesting past.
It all began in 1830 when a group of immigrants, namely Charles Beck, Charles Foller, and Francis Lieber, began to introduce this sport into the local school system. This began the realization of a sports dream for many American children. The year 1881 saw the formation of the Bureau of the European Gymnastics Federation. Their job was to establish and monitor international competitions, like the Olympics and World Championships. The United States formed the Amateur Athletic Union in 1883. This union was in control of the gymnastic competitions within the United States. This encompassed all the various championships, from the local level ones to the national ones that decided who were going to world championships. At the Athens, Greece Olympics in 1896, gymnastics made its debut, but only the men participated. The events included the horizontal bar, vault, parallel bars, rings, and pommel horse. Five countries participated in these events and Germany, which was one of the countries, took almost all of the medals in every event. It was correct to say that Germany clearly had the edge during those games. 1903 saw the introduction of the first international gymnastics event, which was considered the first world championship, which took place in Antwerp, Belgium.
There were gymnasts there from Belgium, France, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands. In the following year, the Olympics were held in St. Louis. This saw the competition of the men's team which added more events, as the individual events were the only ones that were preformed before then. Women were finally allowed to participate in the 1928 Olympics in gymnastics. They were only allowed one event and it was the team combined exercise. The Netherlands won this event. In the 1930 world championship, the events were extended to more track and field events. The reason that track and field events were scheduled as gymnastic events is uncertain, but it did not stay that way long. The events that the athletes were to participate in were the pole vault, 100 meter dash, broad jump, rope climb, and shot put. The first women's gymnastics' team for the United States was established in 1936 and has been strong ever since.
Today, gymnastics have turned into a huge display of tumbling, strength, rhythm, dance, and coordination. With athletes in this field like Shawn Johnson and Paul Harmon, the bar for performance has been set incredibly high for the next World's Championship. One can only look forward to how creative these athletes will be with their routines and their moves, along with how strong their athletics are, for future events.

How to Get Super Fit Fast

How to Get Super Fit Fast

How to Get Super Fit Fast

If you are in a bad shape then obviously you have to lose weight. To lose weight you need a weight loss solution, more like, weight loss solutions as there are many ways to lose weight. Many ways that work and even more many that don't. One consequence of losing weight is getting fitter.
So here are the ways, you can use to lose weight and get super fit:

Set Goals:
Without goals you cannot (or should not) even begin to think about success in any walk of life, whether it be getting good grades or the more relevant, losing weight. You have got to set realistic goals. Goals give you energy and give you a purpose.
Fulfilling those goals gives satisfaction and happiness that we all want in our lives. Make your goals a must have rather than a should have. Don't say you should lose weight. Rather it should be, you MUST lose weight. Make strong goals and then back them up with strong will and strong consistent action.
Plan your Goals:
Setting goals is just not good enough. You have to plan your goals, down to the last inch. The more specific you are, the better. So to get super fit, I usually recommend this:
For Beginners:
20 minute walk or light jog 3 days a week meaning, do cardio on alternate days and do weight training in the days between them.
For Intermediate:
Cardio six days a week of 30 minutes each and weight training (usually biceps and chest for beginner, 2 sets and 12 reps of each part) 3 days a week to go along with your cardio.
OR
Follow this HIIT (high intensity interval training) routine for 3 to 4 days a week:
10 minutes light jog at 50 percent of your max speed
then 7 to 10 intervals of max speed like this:
Interval 1
30 seconds of 80-90 percent max sprint, followed by 50 percent max speed for 30 seconds
Repeat this two step sequence 7 to 10 times.
Be Consistent:
You cannot lose weight or even gain muscle if you are not consistent in doing what needs to be done to lose weight. You need to consistently do work on your diet and on your body by exercising. You can expect to see a difference in yourself at least after a month of consistent action, not before.
Some of the ways you can get consistent is obviously to develop a strong will and pick yourself up on days you don't feel like exercising or eating a good diet. Tell other people about your goals. That will certainly get you up for exercise and the right diet everyday when you know that people are noticing you.
Be accountable
I am not against CHEAT DAYS but in the end it all comes down to you. If you keep on sabotaging yourself by eating your prohibited foods excessively in secret, then you are not going anywhere. You need to be honest with yourself. Take your actions day by day.
What you eat today and what you exercise today affects your body for today and what you eat and exercise tomorrow affects your body for tomorrow. So don't think that 3 days of good eating habits and exercise gives you the freedom of binging the next 3 days.

Swimming For Weight Loss

Swimming For Weight Loss

Swimming For Weight Loss

Swimming For Weight Loss

If you are trying to lose weight, and you have tried a lot of diets, and exercise to no avail. Have you ever tried swimming to help with your weight loss?
Did you know you can burn as many as 900 calories in just one hour of swimming. Swimming quite possibly might be the way to reach your desired weight and exercise goals.
Swimming has a lot of meditative qualities. It can turn all your attention away from your daily stress, which is very important for your mind. And also help reduce the risk of heart disease and high-blood pressure.
Almost every muscle in your body is used when swimming. It is an excellent body toner. Have you ever noticed that most swimmers have a lean and tight toned body? The work that your muscles go through when swimming not only burns calories, but that stubborn fat as well. Swimming also gives you great cardiovascular and strength-training work out.

If you are a newcomer of swimming you should consult your physician and take lessons from a trained expert before taking the plunge.Like many sports swimming can be fun with many health benefits, but can also lead to fatal accidents if not done carefully and with proper supervision. Even the novice swimmer should consider consulting a trained expert to maximize their workout.
Other exercises, such as running on pavement or rigorous weight-training, can put a lot of stress on your joints, ligaments and tendons and could lead to chronic injury. But with the buoyancy of water helps swimmers avoid those type of injuries.
Also, water increases flexibility because the effects of gravity is less. Stretches that may be difficult to perform on land can be done with ease in water because the joints are able to move through a greater range of motion.
When you are swimming the bulk of your workout can just be the front crawl. Its faster than the other strokes so you can cover more distance. In addition to the front crawl the backstroke, and the butterfly should be added to your routine. Just treading water can tone up your legs and your arms.
Most health clubs that have a pool offer group fitness classes that will help you to keep on the right path of your routine. Its just a matter of finding the right class and signing up.
As far as who is ideal for swimming it can be practically anyone. At any age, and physical ability, including pregnant women, the elderly, over-weight people, arthritis sufferers and also those recovering from injuries.
Swimming is also great for cross-training.
Swimming is the least expensive exercise, so it will be easy on your wallet. YMCA's and YWCA's usually have lower fees if you just want to take advantage of the pool only.
